Vintage Early Model 1960s Ercol Windsor Model 468 Sideboard

This medium, elm sideboard by Ercol is a design classic from their ever-popular Windsor range.  An expertly constructed piece of furniture that epitomises the form and function aesthetic, where beautiful design meets practicality. Featuring two generous cupboards (one with double doors, one smaller) and two spacious drawers, it’s still such a versatile piece and would be a welcome addition to any modern interior, fitting easily in. This particular 468 model was produced from 1962-1985, and the traditional, naturally aged finish (as opposed to the modern lacquer used in later models) and the flatter design of the door and drawer fronts tells us this is an early piece, dating from the initial production runs. A classic with an appeal that endures generation after generation.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. We have lightly sanded the external wood, oiled and then polished to give it an authentic, durable finish. As you can see in our photos, the golden tones and beautiful grain have been brought back to life with this careful, non-invasive restoration. All three cupboard doors align and their closures work as they should. Inside the right hand cupboard there is a removeable cutlery drawer with adjustable dividers. The main cupboard features a height adjustable shelf. The cupboard interiors have some light marks from use but are in general clean, tidy order. Both bottom drawers slide in and out with ease, and the internal woodwork here is in good order. The sideboard sits on its original castors which move freely and with ease. It’s a beautifully crafted piece as you would expect from Ercol with dovetail joints and the signature oval inset handles. Unfortunately the original label is no longer affixed but its slightly darker, more natural finish, and its flat-fronted design, tell us this is an early version of the Windsor 468 sideboard which began production in 1962 and continued to the mid 1980s.
