Rare Antique Early 20th Century DG Fischel Bentwood 209 Armchair

This antique chair is a rare and beautiful collectable, steeped in history and with the most striking, fluid design. Made by Fischel, it hails from what was formerly Czechoslovakia. David Fischel founded DG Fischel & Son in Neimes, Czechoslovakia making bentwood furniture when the original patent registered by Michael Thonet expired in 1871. His son has actually worked for Thonet and by 1913 the company had expanded to work in Vienna too. This chair most likely dates from between 1910-1920 and comes with the original label attached on the underside. Their chairs were mostly used in bars and cafes but this particular one is in outstanding condition so we suspect it had a quieter life and was much loved.

Description

This original, antique piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in excellent vintage condition. We’ve given it a good surface clean and polish but otherwise have left the original finish well alone. It’s stable and solid with no repairs. Any marks are minor and superficial, as you would expect, given its considerable age. The original maker’s label is still attached under the seat and there is Fischel maker’s stamp just visible too. Please refer to our photos for an accurate sense of the excellent condition of this piece.
