Vintage 1970s Stonehill ‘Stateroom’ Shelf Unit Room Divider

Slimmer, neater and way less bulky than a traditional highboard, this shelf unit / room divider made by Stonehill from its Stateroom range is a handsome piece, offering all sorts of storage, shelf and display options. With a depth of just over 30cm it doesn’t intrude into the room and might suit an alcove by a chimney breast, often dead space where something not fixed would be more versatile. It’s also tidy at the back so could be used as a room divider in an open plan space, perhaps draped with plants on both sides. It’s in really good condition and although it’s unmistakably midcentury, once dressed with books and favourite things, it will look fantastic in a modern, mixed-style setting, and would work in pretty much any room in the house from lounge t0 bedroom to bathroom.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned and polished this piece applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood. The two doors open and close with ease with closures in good working order. The upper cupboard has a removable shelf and both are clean and tidy inside. The three lower drawers slide with ease and are in good, clean order inside. The glass doors of the upper bookcase slides easily in their grooves and again, this is in good order inside. The external wood does carry some light marks and scuffs from wear and tear, in line with its age and function, but this is very minor. The unit is very well constructed, solid and sturdy with no signs of repair. It is a large, heavy item that can’t be dismantled. The Stonehill label can be seen on the inside door with further labels on the back. Please refer to our photos for a good sense of condition.
