Vintage 1960s HW Klein Green Leather & Oak Two Seater Sofa for Bramin
One of our favourite sofas of all time, this is a particularly stylish two seater, designed by HW Klein for Jorgensens Mobelfabrik, more commonly known as Bramin, in the 1960s. Soft, plump, dark green leather cushions on a solid oak frame, this is a beautifully balanced and considered piece of design, where rectangular lines are softened with rounded corners. At a glance its design is simplicity, but it’s been expertly crafted so that the wood grain and leather work in harmony. It’s in tremendous condition given its years. The leather’s worn in and carries some scuffs and marks, as does the wooden frames but these are minimal and don’t detract from this collector’s piece.
Description
This original piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very-good, used condition. The leather upholstery has been cleaned as has the frame with a natural beeswax polish applied. The original deep green leather upholstery is in good-very good order on the cushions. There are six cushions with working zips and plump cushion inners, all in very good order. One of the seat cushions has what look like some small cat claw marks at the back but these aren’t particularly noticeable – this is shown in a photo. The high quality leather is broken in and carries minor scuffs, areas of fading and wrinkles, but these are the characteristics of vintage leather and are to be expected. The fixed leather on the sofa frame is also in very good order. There is a small hole in the finishing fabric underneath the seat cushions (see our photos). This isn’t visible and is unlikely to deteriorate further in our view. The sofa is superbly constructed, solid and sturdy with no wobbles or creaks. There are some minor scratches and scuffs here and there to the wooden frames. There is no maker’s mark on the frame anymore but this is a well-documented piece so we state with confidence it’s an HW Klein sofa for Bramin.
