Early 20th Century Edwardian Mahogany Chest of Drawers with Brass Castors

A nicely proportioned, Edwardian chest of drawers in beautiful, honey-toned mahogany with elegant marquetry borders around its edges. It has its original brass pull handles and castors capping its legs. It comes a little scarred and bruised from its former lives but we love the imperfections of the antique timber and the history it holds. For all the knocks, it’s really well-crafted and has already proved its longevity. Full of character and charm it has a great deal to offer with four drawers for storage. A super, old-fashioned piece to perfect your vintage interior.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, rather rustic, used condition. We have cleaned the piece inside and out, and polished the exterior surfaces with a natural, light beeswax polish. The four drawers are well constructed with dovetail joints, their original brass hang handles and they slide with ease. They all have clean, tidy interiors.  There are signs of wear and tear inside and out as you would expect with a antique piece of this age and function. Minor knocks, scuffs and scratches to the finish primarily. As you can appreciate from our photos, the chest top has taken the brunt of life’s knocks and is lightly bruised and scarred as a consequence. We filled some small holes on the top too as shown. There is also some sunlight fading on the drawer fronts, turning the mahogany a little golden in places. The legs are capped with the original brass castors which are securely in place and roll. It’s made in solid wood so this is a heavy, substantial piece of a very good quality. Sadly there is no maker’s mark in place but it’s British in origin. Please browse our photos for a good sense of its great order.
