Vintage Unique Scratch-made Rocking Chair with Woven Rush Seat
Such a sweet, little seat, this vintage chair has a great deal of rustic charm, sitting upright and proudly to attention. Its design is rather primitive but the craftsmanship and love poured into this chair, most likely originally designed for a child, is plain to see. We believe the rush seat has been rewoven in recent years as it’s in such great order. It’s quite simply a lovely object and perfectly usable as a rocking chair. Use for a children’s bedroom or playroom or style as a sculptural piece, perhaps piled with books or a favourite houseplant.

Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, rustic, used condition. We have cleaned the wooden chair frame with a natural beeswax polish. As you can see from our photos the wood is rather worn and marked, most of it simply down to the wood choice and grain, some down to use and age. This wear is key to the appeal of such a piece though – it carries its history and past lives on its surfaces. There are some historic woodworm holes which we’ve treated as a precautionary measure. The woven rush seat is in very good order, suggesting it’s been redone at some point. The chair’s proportions suggest it was originally intended for a child. It’s structurally sound and solid. There is no maker’s mark but we believe it’s a one-off, scratch-made piece for a talented home wood craftsperson. We have a weekly collection and onward delivery usually follows 1-5 days later, depending on when they are next in your area.
