Vintage Teak Glazed Bookcase by Herbert Gibbs

A no-nonsense, traditional vintage bookcase by British maker, Herbert Gibbs, with plentiful display space for books and / or treasures behind sliding glass doors. It features three shelves, two of which are adjustable and its overall height at 84cm means you can choose to use the top as a further shelf too. It’s a bookcase that can accommodate a lot of books despite its overall neat dimensions. The graduated, shallow depth make this a fantastic storage option where you don’t want furniture that will intrude into the room. It will sit discreetly against the wall. We think this could be put to great use in a child or students’ bedroom, or indeed a hallway or landing. Rather utilitarian in design but wonderfully and robustly crafted… check out the dovetail joints on the top corners.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, it is in good – very good, used condition. The piece has been checked, cleaned and a natural beeswax polish applied to the external wood surfaces to restore shine but otherwise, the finish is original. It features a three level bookcase with sliding glass doors. The two shelves inside are adjustable. The glass doors are in very good order and slide easily in their runners. The bookcase interior is clean and tidy with just light signs of use, as shown. There are light signs of wear and tear to the exterior wood. Overall though, any scratches and chips are minor and what we might expect of a vintage item. It’s very well made with no signs of repair or areas of concern. The Herbert Gibbs label is in place on the back of the piece.
