Original Vintage Thams Kvalitet Danish Bentwood & Leather Armchair

Definitely in the running for the ‘most handsome chair we’ve acquired to date’ at Original Homewares, this is a special piece. Dating from the 1970s and attributed to renowned Danish furniture designer, Georg Thams, it comes with an exceptional midcentury pedigree.  You can see that during its conception, careful consideration and thought was given to how it would look at every angle. It’s gorgeous from all sides and for us, it’s the closed loop legs and the gentle swoop of the arm rests that are the standout features. It’s in outstanding condition too, clearly loved and looked after in a previous life.

Description

This is an original, used chair that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good – excellent, vintage condition. The chair has been thoroughly cleaned and the leather nourished with a natural, neutral balm. The single sectioned seat cushion can be removed and it secures in place with two poppers at the top. It’s in very good order with soft, supple leather, a working zip and plump inners. There are some wrinkles and surface marks but these are in line with how leather wears through use and is very much part of its character. The two leather arm rests are in very good order too with some sunlight fading on the back. The canvas under the cushion is in excellent order. The dark wood bentwood frame is solid and stable with only very light surface marks here and there. The Thams Kvalitet maker’s sticker is attached underneath. Please do browse our photos for a good sense of its super condition and colour.
