Vintage Early Midcentury Danish Golden Green Two Seater Sofa with Carved Wooden Frame

Staying true to our ethos of only acquiring pieces we would love in our own home, we fell for this gorgeous old dame, an early midcentury chaise with more fancy flourishes than you can shake a stick at! It’s Danish in origin and heralds from the 1930s and considering its years, it’s in super condition with few signs of wear and tear to the original golden green upholstery. Just a little sunlight fading. We love the carved swirls and details of the wooden frame, particularly those arms and front legs; then curves and scallops of the sofa shape itself, accentuated by braid piping. With neat ‘love seat’ / two seater proportions and elegant, feminine details, it would be perfect to cheer up a dull bedroom, study or hallway with its faded glamour. And it’s comfortable too with a firm, sprung seat and a tall, contoured back.

Description

This original, vintage sofa is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in good – very good, used condition.  The piece has been thoroughly vacuumed and on-show wooden frame washed, followed by a natural beeswax polish. The original golden green upholstery has a silky sheen to it but we cannot confirm if indeed it is silk or a silk blend. Considering its years it is in remarkably good order, hugging the contours of the frame tightly and with no threadbare areas or tears. There is some sunlight fading across the seat and on the right hand arm rest top, and a small blemish on the back panel, but this doesn’t detract from the appeal of the piece. In fact, if anything it adds to its old-fashioned, vintage charm. There are also piped edges and details which, again, are securely attached and in good order. There are knocks, scuffs and dents to the wooden frame, arms and legs, including a small piece missing on the front edge (please refer to our close up photo). Again though, this wear and tear doesn’t take anything away from the appeal of the piece. The frame itself is solid and stable (note: despite being small, this is a heavy sofa!) with no creaks or joint concerns. It’s a very well-made piece. Sadly there is no maker’s mark but we’ve imported this sofa directly from Denmark and it dates from around the 1930s.
