Vintage 1960s Stag C Range Dressing Table by John & Sylvia Reid

The traditional, vintage dressing table is often too large or too fussy but this clean-lined, super stylish one from power duo, John and Sylvia Reid is in a different league. With a modernist, pared-back design, this came from their Cumberland C range for British furniture maker, Stag and dates from the 1960s. Made in light oak, there are seven drawers, a full width mirror which can be angled and a practical, black Formica central surface, but overall the size is neat and tidy. The Reids were somewhat ahead of their time, creating clean-lined, Scandinavian-influenced furniture to appeal to a young, fashionable demographic, and this is one of those pieces that looks both midcentury and contemporary – classic, timeless design.

Description

This original, vintage dressing table is ‘sold as seen’. Overall it is in good – very good, used condition. It has been cleaned inside and out, and the exterior surfaces stripped, oiled and polished, a partial restoration. All seven drawers slide with ease, are well constructed with dovetail joins and have clean, tidy interiors. The top left drawer has the Stag maker’s label inside. There are light signs of wear and tear, very much in line with its age and function. It’s well-made, solid and stable.
