Vintage 1960s Herbert Gibbs Double Height Oak Bookcase
Practical pieces like this bookcase will always have a place somewhere in the modern home. Its design is no-nonsense and utilitarian but that’s all what you want from a functional bookcase really. Plentiful storage and cover with glazed sliding doors to keep precious reads and treasures clean and safe. Made by Herbert E Gibbs this dates from the 1960s and is solidly made to be hardy and sturdy.
This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good – excellent, used condition. We have cleaned the bookcase inside and out, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior surfaces. The four glass doors slide with ease in their runners and are in very good order. There are four fixed shelves. The exterior wood carries some light marks and scuffs in line with its age but there is nothing to flag – it’s in excellent order. It’s a well-made piece and it dates from the late 1960s. It’s stable and solid with no signs of repair. The Gibbs maker’s label can be seen on the back.
