Vintage 1960s Austinsuite Tallboy Chest of Drawers by Frank Guille
As chest of drawers go, this one is pretty special and a rarity. A seldom seen, 1960s design by Frank Guille for Austinsuite, it features unusual, oval cut, integral handles for a clean-lined, super stylish look. It’s one of those pieces that looks of its day and modern at the same time. We think it must have had a very short production run because we couldn’t find another available. Its proportions are slim and tall, making it ideal for smaller bedrooms. A very fine piece of handsome British midcentury design and one for collectors. This is a keeper.
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall very good, used condition. It has been thoroughly cleaned and a natural beeswax polish applied to the exterior wood. The top surface has been restored as it carried some scratches and marks – it was carefully sanded, oiled and polished. It’s an expertly crafted piece of a very high quality construction, featuring dovetail joints. All six drawers are in good, tidy order internally and they slide with ease. There are some minor, light scuffs to the exterior wood here and there but these are line with the piece’s age. The original Austinsuite gold stamp can be found inside the top drawer. Please do browse our photos for a good sense of the colour and condition.
