Vintage 1950s Turnidge Teak Drinks Cocktail Cabinet
By day, a smart, two door cabinet; by night, it transforms into a drinks / cocktail mixing station with a fold-out bar top! Vintage bars may not be the most important piece of furniture for a modern home, but if you have the space, we can highly recommend indulging yourself because they are so much fun and always grab attention and comment when put to use. What we love about this particular one is that it’s not too obviously a bar. In fact it’s actually a really simple, good-looking, tall cabinet sitting on longer, lighter wood legs and providing lots of generous storage space. Made by Turnidge who were renowned for their drinks cabinets, this is an early model dating from the 1950s. The perfect Christmas gift for yourself perhaps? It can be yours before the party season begins.
This original, vintage cabinet is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in very good, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned it, inside and out. The double doors open to reveal a generous lower cupboard space, a slimline drawer and a mirror-backed drinks areas for bottles, glasses and cocktail accessories. As you can see from our photos the interior is clean, tidy and in excellent order. The drawer slides with ease and the door hinges and closures are in good working order too. There is a working lock with a key and the left hand door has an internal bolt at the top and bottom. The top surface is hinged on either side and folds out to double the surface area for important drink mixing. This is coated in formica to give a hardy,-wipe-clean surface. There are some light scuffs and scratches to the external wood but these are very minor given its considerable years and that this piece was a party animal! It’s well-made, solid and sturdy with no signs of structural repair or areas of concern. The Turnidge maker’s plaque can be found on the inside door.
