Stunning Vintage Midcentury 1960s AH McIntosh ‘Dunvegan’ Teak Sideboard

This handsome and rare sideboard has only had one previous owner. Bought in Scotland from AH McIntosh of Kirkcaldy directly in the sixties, it has remained in the same family since, loved and used with care, until we had the good fortune to acquire this exceptional piece from them recently. Designed by Tom Robertson for AH McIntosh, as part of his Dunvegan range in the 1960s, it’s a fine example of British midcentury design at its very best. Undoubtedly influenced by his Scandinavian peers of the day, it’s clean-lined and elegant with the wood grain allowed space to shine. We love the uninterrupted flow of the carved handles. It offers lots of practical storage too with a generous double door cupboard and drawers. It would make a superb addition to a midcentury-inspired interior.

Description

This is a vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good-excellent, used condition. We have lightly cleaned the piece, applying a coat of Danish oil but have otherwise left the original finish well alone as it’s in such great shape. The two cupboard doors align, open and close with ease and their closures are in good order. The inside cupboard features a fixed, contoured drinks shelf. The internal is in good order apart from a ring mark at the back right hand side, shown in our photos. The three drawers slide with ease are and also in clean, tidy order. The smaller top drawer features baize-lined cutlery dividers. The four legs still have their gold, capped feet. There are some small marks caused by sun fading and little dents to the external wood on both the fronts and the top surface, but these are few and far between, very minor and there is nothing specific to call out. Our photos clearly show the excellent order of the wood but you would of course be welcome to come and see for yourself. The silver AH McIntosh & Co of Kirkcaldy plate can be seen on the inside door. The price label from when originally purchased directly from the maker can also be seen affixed to the back. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of the overall superb condition.
