Midcentury Sutcliffe of Todmorden Extending Dining Table with Six Dining Chairs
Sutcliffe was a longstanding, renowned British furniture maker that could trace its roots back to 1885. One of the many quality British furniture makers of the 20th century to embrace the design aesthetic and philosophy of the Scandinavian designers of the 1950-60s, this teak extending dining table and chair set exudes cool Danish style, from the curved modernist chairs to the delicate tapered legs of the table. This a terrifically well made set in fantastic vintage condition; both the design and construction have stood the test of time well. A great fit for any modern kitchen or dining room, combining good looks with practicality, with durable, wipe-clean black PVC cushions and a table that extends easily to accommodate more diners.
Description
This original, vintage dining table and chair set is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. The table has been cleaned and a natural wax polish applied. The two sides pull apart to reveal the extension section fixed beneath. This rotates and folds out, and then the two sides push back in to secure it in place. The mechanism is in excellent working order and can be used with ease. The extension section has a slightly newer looking finish to the two sides, a common thing as it isn’t subjected to sunlight fading as it’s hidden away. The two sides are in very good order. The original Sutcliffe label can be found under the extension leaf of the table. As you might expect, there are some minor surfaces scratches and signs of use, including a small scuff on one edge, but these are minimal, and the same can be said for the legs. The six accompanying dining chairs are in very good order overall. They have the original, black vinyl upholstery on the seats and this is in great order – clean, comfortable and with no cracks or tears. The wooden frames have some minor scuffs but like, the table, it’s minimal and in line with their age and use. There is a sign of a repair to one of the chairs (the rear stretcher) but this has been well done, is barely noticeable and does not affect the stability of the chair at all.
