Stunning Vintage 1960s Danish Rosewood Bureau / Vanity Table

A very unusual, midcentury, Danish rosewood veneer bureau that can multi-task as a vanity desk / dressing table with its hidden central mirror. With three generous, lockable, lower drawers and a further two miniature drawers and storage holes in the upper section, a writing platform slides out from the front for work. Just pull up a chair. When the working day is done pull the middle section and a mirror folds down for you to check your look before going out for drinks. It’s a high-end piece of furniture of a very fine quality, both in terms of design and build. The rosewood patina is exquisite. Sadly we’ve not been able to pinpoint the maker / designer exactly but it’s very similar to Arne Wahl Iversen’s bureaus for Falster Mobelfabrik with many similar features. We do know it’s Danish in origin, imported directly and dating from the 1960s.

Description

This original, vintage item is ‘sold as seen’. Overall it is in very good, used condition. It has been cleaned inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish applied to the exterior surfaces. The three lower drawers are beautiful made with dovetail joints, integral handles and have clean, tidy interiors. They slide with ease and there is working lock and key. The desk / writing platform simply pulls out and it slides with ease. There is a faint ring mark here which can be seen in our photos. The two, small upper drawers are also neatly made and have clean interiors. The hidden, central mirror pulls forwards and fold down – again, this mechanism is in great working order, as is the mirror and surround. There are minor, light surface knocks and marks here and here to the original, glossy finish including what look to be some ink dots on the top (see our photo – they aren’t very noticeable at all) and some small chips to the veneer edge on the bottom right side (also shown in our photos). There looks to be a neat repair to the trim at the side of the piece – we’ve shown this in our pictures and you can see in the overall context of the piece, it doesn’t show. Sadly there is no maker’s mark but it’s been imported directly from Denmark so Scandinavian in origin. It’s very well-made, solid and stable, a high quality piece.
