Original Victorian Bow-fronted Mahogany Chest of Drawers with Brass Plate Handles
A grand, rather feminine chest of drawers made in richly patterned mahogany and offering lots of generous storage with four drawers. British in origin, it’s very well-made and has stood the test of time, dating from the Victorian era. It has an unusual bow-front, a curved lower edge and large, brass-plate, ring handles. With its dark good looks and elegant design, it will happily sit alongside more contemporary furniture of different styles and wood tones. We’re always charmed by impressive, old-fashioned pieces of solidly-made furniture like this. It’s a quiet beauty.
This is an original, vintage chest of drawers that is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, it is in good – very good, used condition. We have given the piece a thorough clean inside and out, and applied a natural beeswax polish but have otherwise left the original finish alone as it’s very much part of its character in our opinion. The four drawers slide with ease, feature dovetail joints and are in clean and tidy inside. The external wood carries numerous chips, knocks and scuffs in line with its considerable age and use – please do scrutinise our photos for a good sense of the finish and colour. It’s well-made, solid and sturdy. Sadly there is no maker’s mark but it’s a classic, Victorian British piece.
