Midcentury 1950s Esavian Teacher’s Desk with Drawers

Esavian Ltd (which stands for Education Supply Association) made robust, utilitarian furniture for schools and educational establishments. Their furniture was well-constructed, built to last and designed for function. Many of their pieces from the 1950s-1960s were rather no-nonsense and industrial but this particular desk is splendid with lots of fine details and thoughtful design elements. We love the unusual configuration of the brass-capped legs and the oversized top with a generous overhang. It’s a really handsome work station and of course it comes with lots of practical storage with three drawers and a pull-out slide.  A fine, stately piece of vintage furniture that’s solid and has a great deal to offer either in the home or at the office.

Description

This is an original, vintage desk that is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, it is in very good, used condition. We have cleaned it and applied a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood but nothing more. There are three drawers and a pull-out writing platform. All the drawers are well-made, slide with ease and the interior wood is clean and tidy. They have brass handles and two drawers have working locks with keys. The bottom right drawers is sectioned for files. The legs feature brass caps and these are secure and in good order. The only area to call out is some sunlight fading on the top surface. This is shown in our photos and as you can appreciate it’s very minimal. The Esavian Ltd label can be found inside the drawer. There are some very minor scratches and scuffs to the exterior wood as you would anticipate with a vintage piece of this age. It’s a really well-made, utilitarian piece of storage furniture that’s solidly constructed with no signs of repair. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of the fine condition.
