Original 1970s Danish Black Leather HW Klein Egg Chair for Bramin
This iconic egg chair, designed by HW Klein for Bramin, is in superb, original condition. Its wonderfully retro egg shape, combined with its voluminous, floppy, padded leather cushion, make this chair a very comfortable statement piece with enduring appeal. Bramin started out under the name N.A. Jorgensen in the 1950s and produced quality, modern furniture up to the early 1980s. As a much respected Danish manufacturer, they collaborated with a number of high profile Danish designers, such as Hans Olsen and Kurt Ostervig, but it was HW Klein who produced some of their most well-known, classic pieces, including this leather egg chair. Great of course in a family living space for TV watching or reading. The base / legs and ever-so-slightly-more-compact proportions of this one tell us it dates from the 1970s and it’s in black leather, instead of the more commonly seen brown, so a rare find.
This is an original piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall good – very good, used condition. The leather has been cleaned. The leather upholstery on the large, over-sized cushion is in very good order. Although wrinkled and with some minor surface scuffs, as is the nature of vintage leather, it’s thick, soft and supple with a working zip and plump inners. The fixed leather upholstery on the curved chair frame is in overall good order, which we’re particularly pleased with as they’re often rather scuffed round the back where spinning has scraped the wall. The finishing cloth underneath the cushion is clean and tidy, although a couple of the staples here are a touch loose from the foam frame. The swivel base is in very good working order, rotating with ease, and so are the slatted, black wooden legs. Please refer to our photos. Sadly the original Bramin sticker is no longer affixed under the cushion but this is a well-known, documented design that we attribute with confidence.
