Midcentury Skyline Cantilever Danish Black Leather Lounge Chair by Hove Møbler

Dating from the 1970s and manufactured by Danish furniture makers, Hove Mobler, the Skyline chair is a midcentury design classic and quintessentially Scandinavian. The chair has an open design and an organic, curvaceous flow to its form, less bulky than conventional lounge armchairs. They deliver on comfort with a deep tilt, cantilever suspension and generous seat depth. It’s unusual to find one with a ‘blonde’ beech bentwood frame. This with the inky black leather seat makes for a dramatic contrast. Its leather is soft and supple so it’s very inviting and the wooden frame is great vintage condition. This is a piece that will slot neatly in beside other seating or that works on its own as an occasional chair.

Description

This is an original, vintage chair that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. The single sectioned leather cushion has been thoroughly cleaned and nourished with leather balm. The inners are plump, there is working zip and all buttons are securely attached. As you would expect with leather, there are light marks and wrinkles but this ageing is as you would expect. The cushion moors to the frame with poppers on the top edge and seat front. The canvas ‘hammock’ and straps underneath the cushion are in good order. There is a small area of wear on one of the top back straps (see our photos). We believe this is where it’s rubbed against the wall and it’s superficial. The wooden frame is structurally sound and sturdy and it’s as comfortable as it looks. We have cleaned the wood and applied a natural beeswax polish, and although there are some slight wear marks to the arms from everyday use – these do not detract from the look of the piece.  Sadly the original maker’s sticker is no longer affixed to the underside but this is a well-documented design, imported directly from Denmark.
