Rare Vintage 1960s Austinsuite Teak Sideboard

A particularly handsome, symmetrical midcentury sideboard, offering lots of storage with three drawers and two generous cupboards at either end. Made by British maker, Austinsuite, it’s been thoughtfully designed and superbly constructed. This is a substantial piece of wooden furniture but the integrated slimline handles, the placement of the wood grains and the gently bowed front give it an elegance and refinement, as do the long, tapered legs.  A well-made, robust piece of vintage furniture and an attributed model seldom seen – we couldn’t find another.

Description

This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good – excellent, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned the piece inside and out. The exterior wood has been restored. This involves removing the scuffed and faded original finish, lightly sanding the surfaces back to ‘naked’ wood and refinishing with coats of specialist teak oil, and then a final beeswax polish and buff. This level aims to bring vintage pieces back to life without removing every last mark and dent – we never want to be too invasive when we restore because often this strips away the charm and narrative. The three drawers slide with ease, are constructed with dovetail joints and have clean and tidy interiors. The top drawer is designed for cutlery, is felt-lined and has removeable sections. The two cupboard doors have closures in good order and are also clean and tidy inside with just light signs of wear. They both feature a removeable shelf. It’s a very well-made piece and it dates from the late 1960s. It’s stable and solid, well-made and with no signs of repair. The gold Austinsuite maker’s stamp can be seen in the middle drawer. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of its condition.
