Large Vintage Dark Oak Sewing Box with Drawer

A traditional sewing box has so much old-fashioned appeal. It’s not hard to imagine it being used in the post-war home, packed with home-sew projects, knits in progress and embroidery. These days a large sewing box table like this can be used for many things from occasional table to bedside stand to bathroom storage… and of course it remains a useful, practical hobby box too. Sitting on particularly tall legs, this is more of a table than box. There’s lots of space for organising with a lidded and lined, deep top section and a lower drawer. It comes clean but well-used – there is wear and tear, nonetheless it’s a vintage piece with considerable charm.

Description

This original, vintage sewing table is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have cleaned the exterior wood and applied a natural beeswax polish. The lined top section interior has been gently vacuumed. There are light marks on the fabric here but nothing unpleasant, just from use – please refer to our photos. The lower drawer slides with ease, and is clean and tidy inside. The table / sewing is well made and sturdy with no repairs apparent. There is a little misalignment to the two lids of the top section – this is shown in our photos. There are some scuffs and marks on the external wood but this is commensurate with its age and function. There is no maker’s mark on the box but its style and build leads us to believe it dates from the 1950s / 1960s.
