Danish 1970s ‘Skyline’ Lounge Chair in Blond Wood by Hove Mobler

A midcentury classic, the 1970s, Danish ‘Skyline’ chair, manufactured by Hove Mobler, with a light beech bentwood frame, a refreshing change to the more common dark wood. These cantilever chairs are really comfortable, providing great contoured support, with their curved high back and head rest, floating frame and deep, generous tilt. The chocolate brown leather here is soft and supple, and in super condition with just light signs of use. The dark leather complements the blond tones of the flowing wooden frame wonderfully. Chairs of this style have a particularly striking, architectural form with their openness and dramatic lines – they aren’t heavy like more conventional armchairs.

Description

This original, vintage chair is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have given the chair frame a thorough clean, applying a natural beeswax polish to the wood and nourishing leather cleaner to the cushion. The single, three-section cushion is in very good order with securely affixed buttons, working zips and plump inner foams. The original leather is thick, soft and supple with just light, surface wrinkles from use, very much part of its appeal and character. Do refer to our photos. The cushion fixes to the frame with poppers at the top back and front seat edge. The canvas seat and straps underneath the cushion are also in very good order. The frame is in very good order too with light fading / wear to the wooden arm ends, as shown. It’s superbly constructed, solid and sturdy with no wobbles or creaks. There is no maker’s mark on the frame but we know this chair well – it’s a well-documented Hove Mobler design, part of its Skyline range, and dates from the the 1970s.
