Category / Farstrup

Farstrup is a Danish furniture maker with roots dating back to 1910, based in Farstrup. Originally established as a small workshop producing wooden components such as wheel rims and chairs, the company gradually developed into a respected manufacturer of seating furniture, maintaining a strong commitment to traditional craftsmanship.

Farstrup’s most significant development came in the mid-20th century, when it embraced the principles of Danish modern design. During the 1950s and 1960s, the company produced a range of dining chairs and lounge seating that reflected the era’s emphasis on simplicity, comfort, and functional beauty. Designs often featured solid wood frames—typically beech or teak—paired with paper cord or upholstered seats, combining durability with a light, elegant appearance.

The company collaborated with notable Danish designers, most importantly Thomas Harlev, whose Model 210 chair became one of Farstrup’s best-known designs. His work exemplified the balance of ergonomic comfort and refined minimalism that defined Danish furniture of the period.

Farstrup has remained in continuous production, adapting its designs for contemporary use while preserving its heritage techniques. Today, the company is recognised for its high-quality chairs and its enduring link to Danish modernism, with both vintage and current pieces valued for their craftsmanship, comfort, and timeless aesthetic.
