Vintage 1970s G Plan Form Five Teak Shelf Unit with Desk

Designed by R Bennett for G Plan, as part of his late 1960s / early 1970s Form Five range, this freestanding, multi-functional unit serves as storage, display space and a desk. Tall but shallow in depth and tidy in width, it would work wonders in a small room where there needs to be a work station… a student bedroom or for an occasional homeworker perhaps? This set up features an upper cupboard, a shelf and bureau desk, and a lower unit with a sectioned drawer and space to tuck in a chair. It’s a two-part piece with the upper section sitting on the deeper base.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned and polished this piece, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces but otherwise the finish is original. It’s a two part, freestanding piece where the upper section simply sits on the base, however as the function of this particular piece is as a desk, the upper unit should be secured to the wall for piece of mind. Plates are supplied for this purpose. The upper section features one adjustable shelf, a double door cupboard and a drop-down door bureau. The shelf is in very good order, the upper cupboard too with closures and hinges in good order, the G Plan sticker in place and a clean and tidy interior. The bureau door pulls down with ease to create a desk with closures and hinges in good working order. The inside of the door (the desk) is a little marked with ink and paint marks but otherwise the interior is in good order too. The lower unit features a drawer that slides with ease and has the original brass handle securely attached. The drawer is sectioned with half lined in purple baize. The external wood carries some minor knocks, scratches and scuffs here and there as reflected in our photos. Overall, the wear and tear is light and in line with what we might expect with a vintage piece of this age and nature. If you’ve questions or would like to view this item, do get in touch.
