Vintage 1960s Walnut Bookcase Cabinet by Morris of Glasgow

A wonderful, vintage, slim-line walnut and teak bookcase by fine furniture maker, Morris of Glasgow. It dates from the 1960s and its design is perhaps more traditional than midcentury but it’s a quiet piece that will slot discreetly against a wall without demanding too much space or intruding into the room. Its neutral design will mix easily with furniture, homeware and styles from different periods. Although at a glance a simple piece of furniture, its construction is superior with dove tail joints on the base, adjustable shelves and that beautiful walnut grain across the cupboard door. Use for books or displaying precious treasures or both.

Description

This authentic, vintage bookcase is ‘sold as seen’. Overall it is in good, used condition. The piece has been cleaned and wax polished but otherwise the finish is all original. There are two height adjustable shelves in the main bookcase and the two glass doors slide with ease in their runners. The interior is clean and tidy and are the doors. Likewise, there is a further adjustable shelf in the side cupboard and it’s also clean and tidy inside with just light signs of use. The handle, hinges and closures are all secure and in very good order. There is a darker blemish on the door front near the top. It’s not wildly noticeable as it blends with the walnut grain but we’ve shown it in our photos. Overall, the piece carries some light scuffs, knocks and superficial marks here and there, as you might expect with a vintage piece of this age, but overall this is minor – do browse our photos for an accurate sense of its condition. It is solid and sturdy with no wobbles or signs of repair. The Morris of Glasgow maker’s mark isnt in place but we attribute with confidence. It’s well-documented, we’ve sold this model several times before and its quality construction leaves us in no doubt it’s Morris of Glasgow. There is a date stamped ‘1959’ label on the back.
