Vintage 1960s Rosewood Extending Dining Table by Robert Heritage for Archie Shine

A grand, statement dining table in beautiful, richly toned and heavily patterned rosewood, designed by Robert Heritage for British maker Archie Shine in the 1960s. Round and generous in its standard setting comfortably seating four diners, it can be extended by inserting a central section, taking its capacity up to six-eight people. It’s a substantial, heavy-weight table, expertly constructed and rather regal. And it’s the rosewood that’s the star of the show here with a high gloss finish to highlight that signature grain.

Description

This authentic, vintage dining table is ‘sold as seen’. Overall it is in good, used condition. The table has been cleaned and a natural beeswax polish applied but after much deliberation, the beautiful, glossy original finish has been left alone. If we had professionally restored the table top with our polisher, it would have added greatly to the resale price and as the wear and tear is light and in line with the table’s considerable age, we are selling as is and this is reflected in our price. The buyer has the option to complete that restoration further down the line if they wish. As it stands, there are some light surface scratches and marks here and there, not easily picked up in our photos but you can see them when the light catches the high shine of the rosewood. The extension section is entirely separate, not integrated in any way. The two halves of the round table unclips and the table slides open for the extension to be slotted in place. The two sides are then pushed back together and clipped into place. As is often the case, the extension section is a slightly darker than the two sides. Because the extension is stowed away and not used as often, it has retained it’s original, slightly darker colour, whereas the main table top has faded a little in the sunlight. The table is solid and stable with all mechanisms in good working order. There are light scuffs and marks on the legs and frame but these are in line with the table’s age, are minimal and not very noticeable. There is no maker’s mark but it’s a well documented design so we attribute it with confidence. Do take a moment to browse our photos for a good sense of this fine, heritage piece.
