Vintage 1960s AH McIntosh Extending Dining Table

A refined, rectangular midcentury dining table from AH McIntosh of Kirkcaldy, made in the 1960s and mixing Scandinavian design influence with more traditional British style sensibilities. McIntosh furniture is synonymous with superior craftsmanship and you can see that here in the patented, extending mechanism concealed in the centre of the table through to the wonderful curve and drop of the tapered legs. It comfortably seats four, extending to accommodate six-eight.

Description

This authentic, vintage dining table is ‘sold as seen’. Overall it is in good – very good, used condition. The table has been cleaned, lightly sanded and refinished with oil and a final wax polish. There remains some minor patchiness due to sun-fading, a common issue with vintage dining tables that stay in the same room, in the same position, unprotected from sunlight for years. The extending mechanism, which sits hidden underneath the centre of the table when not in use, is in excellent order and moves with ease, folding out. In line with its age, there are some areas of minor wear and tear on the table edges and some deeper scratches to the top that restoration couldn’t remove without being too heavy-handed – this is shown in our photos and they are not particularly noticeable. The legs are overall in very good condition. It is expertly crafted, solid and sturdy.
