Vintage 1960s Dunvegan Teak Extending Dining Table by AH McIntosh

A refined, rectangular midcentury dining table from AH McIntosh of Kirkcaldy, made in the 1960s and mixing Scandinavian design influence with more traditional British style. This table has undergone quite the restoration. It arrived in a really sorry state, relegated to a garage but we knew there was a gem underneath. McIntosh furniture is synonymous with superior craftsmanship and top quality wood, and you can see that here across its restored top and on the tapered legs that pour down to the floor. We love the elegant curved sides of the table top and also its slender profile, a nice change from chunkier dining table models of the same period. The extension section cleverly stores underneath when not in use but when the extra space is required, the two sides pull apart and it slots in for a seamless, large table that can comfortable accommodate eight diners. In its regular mode and partnered with the matching McIntosh dining chairs six seats fit round with ease.

Description

This authentic, vintage dining table is ‘sold as seen’. Overall it is in good – very good, used condition. It has undergone a partial restoration. The table top has been stripped and refinished with oil and a final wax polish. There remains some very faint patchiness due to sun-fading, a common issue with vintage dining tables that stay in the same room, in the same position, unprotected from sunlight for years but overall, it’s in super order. The legs and lower trim have been cleaned and a natural beeswax polish applied. The extension section sits hidden underneath the centre of the table when not in use. It’s in excellent order. To extend the table, the two sides are pulled apart and the extension slotted into place before the two sides are closed. All mechanisms are in very good working order. It is expertly crafted, solid and sturdy. There are minor scuffs and knocks here and there but these are as you might expect of a vintage piece.
