Vintage 1960s Glazed Double Bookcase Display Cabinet by Morris of Glasgow

A handsome, slim-line, double, glazed bookcase in teak by distinguished furniture maker, Morris of Glasgow. It dates from the 1960s and its design perhaps nods more to traditional sensibilities than midcentury but it’s a neutral piece with a shallow footprint (just 28cm) that will slot discreetly against a wall without demanding too much attention or space. Its unfussy design will mix with furniture, homeware and styles from different periods. Although at a glance a simple piece of furniture, its construction is superior with dovetail joints at the base, adjustable shelves and a beautiful, warm grain across its surfaces. As the cabinet is divided into two sections it lends itself to be part used for books and part used for display, and the adjustable shelves give you lots of flexibility.

Description

This original, vintage bookcase is ‘sold as seen’. Overall it is in good – very good, used condition. The piece has been checked, cleaned and wax polished on its external surfaces but otherwise the finish is original. The bookcase is divided into two sections. There are two height adjustable shelves on the left side and one in the other. There are four sliding glass doors, all in great order with no chips or issues to report. The slide freely in the runners. The interiors and shelves are clean and tidy. Overall, the piece carries some light scuffs, knocks and superficial marks here and there on its exterior, as you might expect with a vintage piece of this age, but overall this is minor – do browse our photos for an accurate sense of its condition. It is solid and sturdy with no wobbles or signs of repair. The Morris of Glasgow maker’s mark isn’t in place but we attribute it with confidence as it has many signature details such as the style of the shelf pegs and the construction.
