Vintage 1960s Beaver & Tapley ‘Multi Width’ Teak Bookcase by Robert Heritage

Designed by Robert Heritage for furniture maker, Beaver & Tapley Ltd in the 1960s, as part of its ‘Multi-width’ range, this is a classic piece of British midcentury, heavily influenced by the Scandinavian aesthetic of the day. It’s a clever and practical home item, wide but shallow. It combines two bookcases in one, both with sliding glass doors to protect your reads. The large upper section is divided in two and has adjustable shelves on each side; the lower bookcase is long and open. The configuration offers a great deal of flexible storage and display space to style with books and treasures.

Description

This original, vintage bookcase is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. We have checked and cleaned the piece inside and out, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior surfaces but otherwise the original finish has been left alone. The larger upper bookcase is sectioned into two halves and each side features an adjustable shelf. The lower bookcase features a long shelf. All the glass doors are in very good order and slide with ease in their runners. The bookcase interior and shelves are clean and tidy with just light wear and tear. Overall signs of use are minimal and light – it’s been taken care of. Please refer to our photos for an accurate sense of this piece’s superb order. There is a thin slightly darker line on the right hand side of the piece where it’s butted up against something. It’s well made with no signs of repair or areas of concern. The Beaver & Tapley maker’s label is in place. If you have any questions, require extra dimensions or would like to see the piece, just let us know.
