Vintage 1950s Oak Bureau with Lower Glass Bookcase & Cupboard

Practical and space-saving, a smart, vintage bureau might be the answer to focused, tidy and contained home-working instead of sitting at the kitchen table or balancing a laptop on your knees. This slimline one dates from the 1950s. Its design is unfussy and neutral so it will happily sit alongside pieces of other styles and eras. Made in solid oak, it features a glass-fronted bookshelf and a lower cupboard with rather wonderful brass, inset handles. Pull up a chair to work at the pull-down desk with a top section that has further drawers and storage. And when the working day is done, just close the door to maintain your work-life balance.

Description

This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. It has been cleaned inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish applied to the external wood surfaces. The lower section features a glass-front bookshelf with sliding doors and a further lower cupboard with wooden sliding doors. All interiors here are clean and tidy with nothing to flag. All four sliding doors move freely in their runners. The lower cupboard features inlaid, round brass handles. The top desk section features an inlaid leather desk area , pigeon holes and two further small drawers. Again, it’s in good clean, tidy order throughout and the hinges for the pull down door are in good working order too, creating a stable desk. The top section has a lock and key. There are some minor scuffs, marks and knocks to the exterior wood surfaces but overall this is light. Please see our photos. It’s a well crafted piece, solid and sturdy. Sadly there is no maker’s mark, although there is the retailer’s sticker on the reverse. Do browse through our images to get a good sense of its condition and colour.
