Vintage 1950s Heals Extending Rectangular Dining Table by Gordon Russell

A fine piece of British midcentury design by Gordon Russell for Heals, this table dates from the late 1950s – early 1960s and comes with an exemplary heritage. Its proportions and design are neat and tidy, comfortably seating four people. Pull out the extension which resides cleverly underneath the table top and insert in the middle to increase its capacity to six. It’s the stunning wood grain that elevates this table from the everyday though, with walnut stripes running the width of the table top meeting a lighter wood, most likely oak, border and legs.

Description

This authentic, vintage dining table is ‘sold as seen’. Overall it is in very good, used condition. The table has been cleaned and a natural beeswax polish applied but otherwise the original finish has been left well alone. The extension sits discreetly underneath the table, accessed at one end by gently pulling it out and removing it entirely. The two halves of the table are pulled apart and the extension slots into the central space before the two sides are pushed back into place. There are some light marks here and there to the table top and legs but these are in line with the table’s age and are minimal. The table is solid and stable with all mechanisms in good working order. The maker’s mark can be seen on the underside. Do take a moment to browse our photos for a good sense of this fine, heritage piece.
