Vintage 1950s Chest of Drawers with Mirror by Stag

Something special from MCM design power couple, John and Sylvia Reid for Stag furniture. This particular range is something of a rarity, we believe a short production run in the mid-1950s. It’s expertly designed and superbly crafted in dark walnut with a contrasting blond wood on the base and legs, creating a striking two-tone effect overall. It comes in its original finish so there are light signs of its age – superficial knocks and scuffs here and there but nothing that greatly distracts from its aesthetic appeal and nothing that affects its usefulness. It gives you a great deal of bedroom storage across its six drawers and there is, of course, a generous mirror so it doubles as a dressing table. If you didn’t wish to use the mirror it can be easily removed. We have the matching chest of drawers, acquired at the same point, and we have listed them as a pair at a discounted price.

Full Condition Report
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. We have serviced and cleaned the piece inside and out, applying a natural polish to revive the shine but otherwise the finish is original. The six drawers are beautifully made with dovetail joints and solid wood fronts. They open and close with ease and all the original brass handles are securely attached. The mirror hangs on two uprights which screw in at the back and it can be cleverly angled. The uprights can be easily unscrewed if you wished to simply use as a large chest of drawers, rather than a dressing table. There are surface scuffs, scratches and blemishes to the original exterior finish which are clearly shown across our photos but given its age, we would expect wear and tear of this nature. Despite this, the piece remains stable, sturdy and with a great deal of life and appeal left in tact. It’s very well made and the superficial wear and tear is reflected in our price. The original Stag maker’s label can be found in the drawers. Please browse our photos for an accurate account of this item. Any queries, do get in touch. .
