Traditional Vintage Dark Oak School Desk with Three Drawers

Here’s a fine, characterful, vintage desk by Papworth Industries of Cambridge who made (still make!) furniture for schools or educational institutions. It carries life’s scars and knocks on its surfaces but it’s still going strong and has much to offer. Besides, this wear and tear is very much part of its history and character. It has particularly neat, tidy proportions so won’t take up huge space in a room but it also offers plentiful storage with three drawers and an expansive top for working.  Solidly made, built to last, this has many years of active service left. It’s a real, old charmer.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. The desk has been cleaned and thoroughly checked over. There are three drawers in total which all slide with ease and are in good, solid order with dovetail joints. There are marks and scuffs to the interior woodwork but nothing to specifically call out. The exterior wood is marked, chipped and scuffed – please refer to our photos. We haven’t tried to mask this and we think these marks of life are very much part of its vintage charm. The desk is very well made, solid and sturdy. Sadly we do not have the key. The maker’s plate is on the back – Papworth Industries, Cambridge – and it dates from the 1950s. A fine, old piece that’s seen much life.
