Sweet Vintage Danish Green Striped Two Seat Sofa / Love Seat
This vintage sofa is a real darling. Made for two, its high sides and back make it perfect for an alcove, a bay window, a snug or a dull corner that could do with an interesting functional feature. Upholstered in a vivid-but-not-too-bright, mustard lime green wool with a striped seat panel in greens and black and a piped front edge. There is an impressive brass tack studded trim to accentuate its rolling curves and lines and overall it’s in sound vintage condition with just light signs of aging and use. A Danish original, this style of seat is referred to as a ‘London sofa’ there but no one really knows why. A more traditional, old-fashioned design than we would normally expect from midcentury Denmark but it’s a charmer and these more decorative pieces, with their neat dimensions and quirky details, are great solitary pieces.
These is an original, vintage sofa that are ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have given the piece a thorough vacuum but have carried out no further restoration work. The original wool upholstery is clean and in good order in line with its age. It’s a little worn on the two front arms ends and the piped line along the seat front – please see our photos. The fabric has faded a touch, when you see the back and sides but again, this is very much as you might expect with a vintage sofa of this age. The decorative stud tacks are securely nailed in place and none are missing. The wooden legs carry some very minor scuffs but these are barely noticeable. The frame is solid and sturdy, well-made with no signs of repair or joint concerns. There is no maker’s mark on the sofa but it’s imported directly from Denmark and we believe it dates from 1960s.
