Vintage Solid Mahogany Adjustable ‘Pigeon Hole’ Shelving Unit

A superbly constructed, free-standing, ‘pigeon hole’ shelving unit that dates from the 1950s-1960s. Believed to originally have been made for a school or academic institution, its design is utilitarian and no-nonsense but its build is of the highest quality. It’s beautifully crafted in a solid hard wood which we believe is mahogany given its colour, grain and weight – it was made to endure a lot of use and made to last. The shelves can be removed – they slide onto ‘hidden’ inset rods so appear to float – which means this pieces offers a lot of flexibility which means you can configure the shelf heights to suit. Use for books, your vinyl collection, or shoes and outerwear in your boot room or hallway. Use in a bedroom for showcasing special clothes and accessories, or a bathroom for towels and toiletries. There are a million ways this exceptional quality storage unit could be utilised in the home.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in excellent, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned the wood and applied a natural beeswax polish but have otherwise left the original finish alone as it’s in fantastic order. Each shelf can be slid out from the unit and the metal supports holding them in place can be removed if you wish to alter the configuration. It is a heavy item, constructed out of solid hardwood that we believe to be mahogany.
