Set of Six Vintage 1940s Village Hall Wooden Folding Chairs

It’s not hard to imagine these characterful, old-fashioned chairs set out in a village hall, for school assembly or for Sunday school. Practical and utilitarian, they fold easily for stowing away when not required but are there in a jiffy for extra occasional seating. They date, most likely, from 1940s / 1950s, and are made in oak. When in chair-mode, they are solid and sturdy. This set of six would be ideal for the patio and use in the garden when the BBQ is fired up. A really useful set of chairs, reliable and efficient for those moments where additional seating is required.

Description

This set of six used, vintage folding chairs is ‘sold as seen’. Overall all the chairs are in fair – good, rustic condition, as shown. The chairs have been cleaned and lightly waxed. All six chairs have metal hinges and moving parts enabling them to fold in good working order. Indeed, they fold easily so due care should be taken when collapsing them to ensure fingers aren’t squashed. There were signs of historic woodworm with dormant holes here and there. As a precautionary measure, all six chairs have been treated. As you can see in our pictures, the chairs are knocked, scuffed and worn across all their surfaces which we feel is very much part of their history and charm. However, they are stable and solid as well as practical for occasional use, flattening with ease for stowing away. Do browse our photos for a good sense of their order. Sadly the maker labels are no longer in place under the seats but they are British in origin and most likely salvaged from a school, hall or church.
