Set of Six Midcentury G Plan Dining Chairs by VB Wilkins
Victor Wilkins designed for G Plan in the 1960s, including the ever-popular Fresco range. His designs show a strong Scandinavian influence and were made in teak. These particular chairs are a rarer find, pre-dating the more common Fresco dining chair with the round seat and back pad. They have a parred-pack elegance to them with subtle curves showcasing the richly toned teak. The original brown vinyl seats are in extraordinary condition considering their years but you might choose to update them, an easy, cost-effective job. Beautifully made to be robust, reliable and cope with family life, they are a very fine set of six dining chairs.
This original, vintage set of six chairs is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, they are in very good – excellent, used condition. Five of the chair are in excellent vintage condition, one very good! The solid teak chair frames have been carefully cleaned, oiled and polished, restoring them to their former glory. They are in outstanding condition with no repairs, nothing to call out and very few signs of wear – just some very light, superficial, age-related marks. The seat pads are covered in the original brown vinyl which on five of the chairs is in excellent order. One of the chairs features a small tear at the back edge and a further bulge on the front edge. Both are discreet and don’t greatly compromise the chair but do warrant being called out. The backing cloth on the underside of this particular chair is rather ripped too, whereas it’s in good order on the other chairs. We appreciate the upholstery choice might not be for everyone so it’s worth noting the seat pads could be easily and cost-effectively recovered either by a professional upholsterer or by a hobbyist. As you can appreciate from our photos, these chairs are superbly crafted and several of the chairs carry G Plan red square logo sticker underneath.
