Set of Six Midcentury 1950s Danish Industrial Stacking Chairs

If you’re a fan of mix and match style with a soft spot for industrial design, the set of six 1960s Danish stacking chairs will appeal. They are in very good order, ideal as family dining chairs, as occasional chairs for when extra guests arrive, or even as patio chairs in the summer for al fresco evenings. Designed as practical, ‘work-horse’ furniture, their design is utilitarian with a shaped metal frame and ply wood seat and back rest, but we like their silhouette very much and we like too that they are full size chairs – often stacking chairs are smaller. There are scuffs and marks to both the wood and metal frames, but this is a nod to the chairs’ history and is very much part of their appeal. We love their industrial, lived-in charm and of course they can be stacked away when their work is done.

Description

This original, vintage set of six chairs is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, they are in good-very good, used condition. The chairs have been cleaned and a natural beeswax polish applied to the ply wood seats and backs. The original finish on the metal chair frames is marked with light rust and scuffs. All of the chairs have plastic feet caps in place. The contoured ply on the back rests and seats carries marks, minor chips and scuffs from use but this is in line with their function and age. We have tried to show the condition in our photos so do browse. Although their finish is rather rustic, aside from our cleaning, we have kept it as, is as in our view, this industrial, lived-in look is what appeals. All six chairs are solidly made, sturdy and robust with no repairs or wobbles. Sadly there is no maker’s mark on the base of the seats but these were imported directly from Denmark. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of the condition of these chairs.
