Set of Four British Midcentury Younger’s Barsac Range French Walnut Dining Chairs
A superbly crafted, hard-wearing set of stylish, mid century dining chairs in solid walnut and with recently reupholstered plush seats. We can attribute them to Younger as we have black and white images of the chairs alongside other Younger’s furniture in their 1958 catalogue. Youngers went on to produce various different designs of dining chair throughout the sixties but these early models are a rarer find. Their simplicity adds to their elegance with subtle, understated design details like the slight kick of the back legs and gentle flare of the chair backs at the top. They’re wonderfully comfortable. The frames and upholstery are in outstanding condition. The fabric choice is perhaps a little out-dated for some in terms of colour and texture but recovering would be an easy job for an upholsterer. Either way, this is a super set of British-made, vintage dining chairs with a great deal to offer a lively, sociable home who like sitting around the dining table with friends and family.
Description
This original, vintage set of four chairs is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, they are in excellent, used condition. The solid walnut chair frames have been carefully cleaned and a natural beeswax polish applied. They are in outstanding condition with no repairs, nothing to call out and very few signs of wear – just some very light, superficial, age-related marks. The seat have been upholstered in a heavy-weight, textured, neutral-toned fabric – somewhere between gold, green and mustard. We believe they have been restored in recent years as it looks new and there are no signs of wear. They are plump and very comfortable. The chairs are superbly made, solid and sturdy with no wobbles or joint concerns. There is no maker’s mark on the chairs anymore, most likely stripped away when reupholstered, but we have a copy of the original 1958 Younger catalogue that features black and white pictures of these chairs. They were part of Younger’s Barsac range.
