Rare Vintage 1960s Jentique Teak Sideboard

The maker’s plate in the top drawer tells us that this is an early piece from Jentique, dating from the 1960s, and it’s a rare find too. You don’t find many with this configuration of cupboard, cabinet and drawers, and with this specific handle design. It’s really handsome and compared to other sideboards of this period, it’s a good, medium size – not too big, not too small. Jentique made really good quality furniture, thoughtfully designed and very well constructed. There is ample storage here so a practical piece for the family home where you need doors and drawers to stow stuff away. We love the generous, darker solid beech handles against the lighter richly toned teak.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have cleaned the sideboard and refinished the top to remove superficial knocks and marks, and give a durable, hard-wearing finish. We have applied a natural beeswax polish to all the other exterior wood. All three drawers slide with ease and have clean, tidy interiors. They are well constructed with dovetail joints. The top drawer is lined and sectioned for cutlery. There is a drinks cabinet on the right hand side with a contoured, fixed shelf to accommodate bottles and a pull–down door, creating a surface for mixing. The left hand side features a large, double door cupboard with a fixed shelf inside. The external wood is in very good order with just minor signs of wear and tear – light scuffs and knocks, most notable along the bottom edge as we’ve shown in our photos – but in line with its considerable age and function. The tapered legs have their original, adjustable feet in place. It’s well made, solid and stable, with no signs of repair or areas of concern. The Jentique maker’s mark is affixed in the top drawer and it dates from the late 1960s.
