Pair of Midcentury 1970s Tall Leather ‘Siesta’ Chairs by Ingmar Relling for Westnofa

Smart and stylish, this pair of beech bentwood lounge chairs hail from Norway and date from the seventies (although the original design dates from the 1960s, this is a later model), made by Westnofa and designed by Ingmar Relling. A tall version of his acclaimed, iconic ‘Siesta’ chair that won his design recognition and cemented his reputation as a leading MCM designer. Their floating, curvaceous form combines striking good looks from every side with super comfort, their tilt and suspension providing great support. We love chocolate brown leather and the detail of the cord running through the frames and hammock seat canvas. These chairs offer an excellent alternative to bulkier, more traditional lounge chairs as the  proportions are compact and slim without compromising on comfort.

Description

This is an original, vintage chair pair that is ‘sold as seen’. They are in very good, used condition. They have been thoroughly cleaned and the leather cushions restored with a coloured nourishing balm. There are two cushions on each chair – the headrest and a sectioned seat and back cushion. All have working zips and are soft and supple with no areas of concern. There are some light wrinkles to the leather’s surface, as can be seen, but this is minimal and what you would expect from vintage leather. The finishing canvas under the leather cushions is in good condition too, securely moored into position with cord that runs through the chair’s frame and through the cushion eyelets to keep them in place. There is some minor fraying around 2-3 of the eyelets on the underside of one of the chairs – we’ve shown this from both sides. The stained beech bentwood frames are structurally sound and sturdy with no wobbles or joint concerns. Again, there are some very minor scuffs and scratches in line with their age. Overall the chairs are in superb condition. The Westnofa maker’s label is affixed underneath both. Do browse our photos for a clear sense of colour and condition. We have a weekly collection and onward delivery usually follows 1-5 days later.
