Pair of Midcentury 1970s Danish Tall Leather ‘Skyline’ Armchairs by Hove Mobler

A matching pair of the forever-stylish, 1970s, Danish ‘Skyline’ chair, manufactured by Hove Mobler. They come with light beech bentwood frames, a refreshing change to the more common dark wood. These cantilever chairs are really comfortable seats, providing great contoured support, with their curved high back and head rest, floating frame and deep, generous tilt. The chocolate brown leather is soft and supple, and in super condition on both chairs with just light signs of use. The leather complements the blond tones of the flowing wooden frames perfectly. Chairs of this style have a particularly striking, organic form with their openness and dramatic lines – they aren’t heavy like more conventional armchairs. This pair would look fantastic opposite each other in a snug, conservatory or living room.

Description

This pair of original, vintage chairs are ‘sold as seen’. They are in good – very good, used condition. We have given the chair frames a thorough clean, applying a natural beeswax polish and nourishing leather cleaner to the cushions. The single, three-section cushions are in good – very good order with securely affixed buttons, working zips and plump inner foams. The original leather is thick, soft and supple with light, surface wrinkles and scuffs from use, very much part of its appeal and character. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of their condition. We’ve shown the cushions side by side as there is a very subtle difference in shade even though these were acquired from the same source as a pair. Set slightly apart this wouldn’t be noticeable at all – you would assume they were exactly the same colour. One of the cushions is a little more wrinkled than the other, clearly the favourite of the two! The cushions fix to the frames with poppers at the top back and front seat edge. The canvas sling seats and straps underneath the cushions are also in very good order. The frame is in very good order too with light fading / wear to the wooden arm ends, as shown. It’s well constructed, solid and sturdy with no wobbles or creaks. There is no maker’s mark on the frame but we know this chair well – it’s a well-documented Hove Mobler design, part of its Skyline range, and dates from the the 1970s.
