Pair of Matching Vintage 1970s Glazed Bookcases by Herbert Gibbs

A pair of smart, utilitarian vintage glazed bookshelves by British maker, Herbert Gibbs, that date from the early 1970s. Split into two sections, each with its own pair of sliding glass doors and an adjustable shelf inside, they lend themselves to be configured to your needs, perhaps with books in one section and treasures in the other. The generous width but shallow depth of each bookcase make them small footprint storage options where you don’t want shelves that intrude into the room too much. Simply designed but very well-made.

Description

This is pair of original, vintage bookcases are ‘sold as seen’. Overall, they are in good – very good, used condition. They have been checked and cleaned inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish applied to the exterior wood surfaces to revive shine but otherwise the finish is original.  The bookcases are divided into an upper and lower section, each with two sliding glass doors so four doors in total. All doors are original and in very good order, sliding with ease in the runners. Each section has a height-adjustable shelf and all interiors are clean and in good order with just minor signs of use. There are also light signs of wear and tear to the exterior wood, just the odd superficial mark and scuff in line with what we might expect to see on a vintage item. One of the pair has a small blemish on its top as shown in our photos. Both are well made with no signs of repair or areas of concern. The Herbert Gibbs label is in place on one bookcase along with the original retailer label which dates it to 1971. Please do browse through our photos for an accurate sense of their order.
