Pair of 1970s Swedish Brown Leather Armchairs Designed by Ebbe Gehl & Soren Nissen for Jeki

A statement lounge chair pair indeed. Low, laidback and masculine, they originate from 1970s Sweden, designed by Ebbe Gehl and Soren Nissen for renowned maker, Jeki. The chunky, modernist, dark wooden frame looks grand with the deep chocolate brown leather. And comfort is as important as the good looks here. From the tilt (which can be adjusted) to the contoured back to the plump cushions to the generous proportions, these are indulgent seats. You’re in danger of never leaving them! It’s rare to find a pair of chairs in such good matching condition – these are in fantastic order with any signs of wear and tear adding to their aged, vintage appeal.

Description

This pair of original, used chairs is ‘sold as seen’. The chairs are in good – very good , vintage condition. Each chair is comprised of a single sectioned cushion that secures in place with poppers in the bottom and with Velcro at the top (although this has lost its adhesion somewhat – the cushion stays in place anyway). The leather cushions are both in very good order. We’ve thoroughly cleaned them with a specialist, nourishing leather cleaner. The leather is soft, supple leather with securely attached buttons, working zips and plump inners. The leather arm rest slings are in very good order too. There are wrinkles and surface marks here and there on the leather which you can see in our photos but this is very part of aged leather’s appeal. The canvas and suede panels underneath the cushions and at the back are in very good order with just light marks from use. There is a working mechanism on each chair that raises the tilt. There are two positions. The dark wood frames on are solid and stable and both carry scuffs and marks. Overall this is minor and doesn’t detract from their good looks greatly. There is no maker’s label but these are very fine quality, well-documented chairs that we attribute with confidence to Jeki, designed by Ebbe Gehl and Soren Nissen, and made in the seventies.
