Original Mid-century Skyline Bentwood Brown Leather Chair

Not your standard midcentury Scandinavian bentwood chair, this particular one is a cut above. It’s all in the detail… from the unusual cord threading across the wooden back brace, to the leather straps that secure the seat to the frame, to the simpler three-button cushions, this is a particularly handsome cantilever chair. It most likely hails from Norway or Denmark, dating from the early 1970s. It’s in fantastic condition and these chairs are supremely comfortable with suspension built into their design, creating the perfect tilt and support. These lounge chairs are also excellent for rooms where space is a premium and conventional armchairs would be too bulky. The open, flowing design of a bentwood chair takes up less space but still delivers on comfort.

Description

This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good – excellent, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned the sectioned leather cushion, applying a nourishing leather balm. The cushions are in excellent order with working zips, securely attached buttons and plump inners. There are signs of aging to the leather, creases and wrinkles, but this is very much part of vintage leather’s character. The finishing canvas underneath leather is in very good order, securely moored in place with straps and cord, but as you can see in our photos there is some sunlight fading. We don’t feel this detracts greatly from the appeal of the piece. The bentwood frame is in very good order. We have cleaned it and applied a natural oil. Structurally it’s sound and stable with no signs of repairs – it’s a really well-made, cantilever chair. The wood has faded here and there, particularly on the arm ends. Again, this is in line with its age. Sadly there is no maker’s mark but it’s highly likely to be a Skyline chair by Hove Mobler and date from the early 1970s.
