Original Mid-century 1950s Uniflex Sideboard in Teak & Rosewood

Here is a really exceptional and rarely seen piece of British midcentury furniture from renowned maker, Uniflex. Made in the late 1950s, this is a large, stately sideboard featuring all the dining / living room storage you could possible want with drawers, a bi-fold cupboard, a drinks cabinet and a removable cutlery tray. For all that it’s practical, it’s the incredibly handsome good looks that elevate this functional piece. The two outer cabinet doors are rosewood and the rest teak, creating balance, pattern texture and distinction. And even though this is a large piece, the base and tapered legs give it elegance and space. Even the back of this sideboard is thoughtfully finished which means it could be used in open-plan space to segregate zones. A very classy item.

Description

This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. We have cleaned the piece inside and out, and applied a natural beeswax polish to the external surfaces. All three drawers slide with ease and are clean and tidy inside. They are very well constructed with dovetail joints and have brass pull handles securely affixed. The top drawer is sectioned and also has a removable cutlery tray, again beautifully constructed. The top drawer front has a penny-sized, slightly faded patch to the right of the handle. It’s not particularly noticeable as you can see in our photos. The left hand cupboard features a bi-fold door which moves with ease and has working closures. There is a fixed shelf inside which is lightly marked on one side – see our photo. The right hand cupboard features a pull-down, formica backed door, designed for mixing drinks on. There is a fixed U-shape shelf inside, designed to accommodate bottles and glasses. There are just light marks and signs of aging to the exterior wood and legs, primarily on the top surface. There are some faint patches of sunlight fading here and there, circles mainly where items have been displayed. We have shown this in our photos, but again this is very light and barely noticeable. The Uniflex stamp can be seen in the top drawer and this sideboard dates from the late 1950s.
