Original 1960s Midcentury Revolving Corner Drinks’ Cabinet

The urge to keep this handsome piece is strong – it’s just wonderful! By day, an unassuming, vintage, teak, corner cabinet for display and storage; by night, a versatile cocktail bar, storing your favourite drinks and special glasses. Revolve the swinging, central unit to have your preferred side on show. A well-made, good-looking piece set on long legs and designed to tuck into a corner, it doesn’t intrude into the room greatly. The shelf side was probably originally designed to house further glasses and drinks’ accoutrements, but we rather like the secret double life so would fill with books and trinkets instead. We love the painted glass back panel of the drinks’ cabinet featuring a wine cellar scene. Sadly we’ve not been able to establish where this fantastic midcentury cabinet hails from – there aren’t many out there for identification. It could be Norwegian, made by SOLA, it could be British, because we love a drink! Who knows… either way, this is a rather eccentric, unusual vintage piece that’s a lot of fun and the perfect piece for a dull corner.

Description

This original, vintage corner cabinet is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. It has been thoroughly cleaned inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish applied to the external wood. It features a double-sided unit that revolves simply by pushing round. The front features an open double shelf. The shelf sits on metal rods and can be height adjusted. The back features a drinks’ cabinet with five bottle holes, a decorative mirrored back and five slots for hanging glasses.  This section is in excellent order, rotating with ease. The outer cabinet is in very good condition and sits on three, long, tapered legs. There are very minor, superficial marks to the exterior wood in line with its age and use. There is only on thing to flag – a small rectangle of veneer replaced on the left, lower corner – please refer to our photo. It’s not particularly noticeable overall. It’s well made, solid and stable. There is no maker’s mark sadly. Please do browse our photos for an accurate sense of its super order. Note: we’ve added felt floor protectors to the feet which you can see in our photos – they can be easily removed if not required.
