Midcentury 1970s Teak Drinks Cabinet / Cocktail Bar by Turnidge

With a minimalist, pared back design, at a first glance you wouldn’t know this 1970s cabinet is a home cocktail bar. Simply but thoughtfully crafted with clean lines and unfussy details like the recessed handles, pull down the top door to create a mixing / serving platform. The back is mirrored with small shelves to one side and this section illuminates too with a discreet internal light. The generous lower cupboard features quirky bottle holes and a shelf for storage. Made in teak by quality British manufacturer, Turnidge of London, who had a superb pedigree and reputation for crafting drinks cabinets, display units and bookcases, dating back to the 1930s. We particularly love the U of the legs.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned and polished this piece, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces but otherwise the finish is original. The top section has an integral light that has been rewired and PAT tested. All hinges, closures and interiors are in very good order. There are just very light signs of use in both the top cabinet and lower cupboard. There are minor knocks, marks and scuffs to the exterior wood surfaces but nothing to call out although it should be noted there is a little sunlight fading on one side of the cabinet. Clearly this end was positioned near a window. You can see in our photos it’s a touch more golden than the rest of the teak. Overall, the wear and tear is light and in line with what we might expect with a vintage piece of this age and nature. The unit is very well-made and the Turnidge label can be seen inside the door.
